As the holidays draw closer, there will be plenty of activities throughout Queens that people can attend to get themselves in the spirit of the season. Here are just some of them that will be taking place:
Members of the Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be at the Forest Hills Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 to inform people about holiday health and safety tips. Additionally, Parkway Hospital Director of Emergency Services Dr. Susana P. Tinsay will give information about stroke awareness. “Jingle Bell Swing” will be held at the Cambria Heights Library, which is located at 218-13 Linden Boulevard, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. The concert will feature singer Richard Lanham. “Chanukah Concert with David Ross” will be held at the Flushing Library at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 15. Ross uses “an eclectic mix of R&B, rock and soul” to create “a new sound in Jewish Music. The Flushing Library is located at 41-17 Main Street and can be reached at 718-661-1200.
CBA Culture & Arts Center will present a holiday concert at the Flushing Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28. Along with performing Chinese holiday songs, the concert will also feature selections for the Beijing Opera and Korean dance.
Flushing Town Hall will have performances of The Nutcracker at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 28th.
All as part of Flushing Town Hall’s holiday events, it will have “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah!” at 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 28. The family concert will feature bilingual singer and songwriter Louie Miranda. Flushing Town Hall is located at 137-35 Northern Boulevard. The Queens College Choral Society will hold its 68th Winter Concert at 8 p.m. on the college’s Colden Auditorium. The society, whose music director is James John, will be joined by an orchestra and Maurice Peress will be the guest conductor. Tickets cost $20 or $18 for seniors and $5 for students with a Queens College ID.
There will also be a performance of the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker at the Colden Auditorium at Queens College at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 28. There will be wreath making workshops at the Queens Country farm museum at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 and Saturday, December 13. The cost of the workshops is $15 per person per wreath and advanced payment is required. To register, call 718-347-3276 x10.
In addition, the Queens County Farm Museum will have a holiday open house on December 26, 27, 28 and 29. It will take place from noon to 4 p.m. and will include a tour of the decorated farmhouse, craft activities for children and mulled cider. Admission is free. The Oratorio Society of Queens will have its Annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 21 at 4 p.m. The concert will feature Christmas carols and Chanukah songs. The chorus will be joined by guest soloists Geraldine McMillian, John Easterlin and Vaughn Fritts and The Orchestral Arts Ensemble of Queens and will be led my Maestro David Close.
