Shrimp Market opens in Queens Center Mall

On January 5, Shrimp Market, a nearly two-year-old chain that offers meals prepared to order, opened its first New York location in the Queens Center Mall’s food court.
With dishes like Shrimp Carbonara, Coconut Shrimp, Shrimp Cocktail and Cajun Jambalaya Shrimp, Shrimp Market’s cooked-to-order menu is rich in variety, with fried, grilled, American, Italian and Asian dishes, most priced at just $7. There is also a selection of saut/ed vegetables and packaged salads, and shrimp is available by the pound for takeout.
“Everyone loves shrimp, but until now it has always been a special-occasion treat,” says Vanessa Abramowitz, Shrimp Market’s President. “We want high-quality, delicious shrimp to be accessible to everyone every day of the week.”
There is also a tasty selection of sandwich wraps and rolls, including a New England Shrimp Roll and Asian Shrimp Wrap. Desserts include All American Cheesecake, Three Layer Chocolate Cake and Shrimp Market’s Key Lime Pie.
Shrimp Market, with 13 other locations throughout the U.S., maintains the highest standards imaginable when it comes to food safety, say its operators. The company even raises all of its shrimp on state-of-the-art farms in Colombia through its parent company, Cartagena Shrimp Co.
Abramowitz’s father, Salomon Finvarb, founded the $100 million-a-year firm in 1983, and today it produces 10,000 tons of shrimp annually.
