American Legion runs literacy campaign

For 10 years, the veterans of The Queens County American Legion have been donating children’s books to the Queens Public Library in Jamaica – and they outdid themselves recently.
On Friday, May 8, the library received more than 100 social studies homework help books for elementary grades, easy-readers, pleasure-reading and picture books for children.
Legionnaires from the Youth Committee chose titles from a “wish list,” prepared by the Central Library’s Youth Services Division.
“The American Legion’s donation is always important, but never more than in this lean budget year,” said Joanne King, Associate Director for Communications at the Queens Library.
