Cops seek assistance in catching Astoria robber

ASTORIA — Authorities were asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect responsible for two Astoria robberies, police said.

The latest incident occurred last Thursday at around 3:20 p.m. at the corner of Newtown Avenue and 23rd Street, police said.

Police said a 13−year−old girl was walking on a sidewalk when a man grabbed her cell phone and fled in an unknown direction.

In a similar occurrence, police said, a 28−year−old woman was walking on the sidewalk at Astoria Boulevard and 23rd Street when her cell phone was snatched and the robber fled northbound on 23rd Street.

Neither woman was injured during the robberies, police said.

Police described the suspect as a 6−foot, 160−pound black man.
