Once again, Queens residents seeking an inside view into early election results in their local races could tune in to Queens Public Television (QPTV) to get their political fix.
The Queens Courier and QPTV were teamed up as they had been during the primary campaign in September, when Victoria Schneps-Yunis, publisher of The Queens Courier family of newspapers co-hosted an Election Night Special with Clifford Jacobs, QPTV Deputy Executive Director.
“It is our privilege as a newspaper to bring the most current news to our readers and now our viewers,” host Schneps-Yunis said.
The full hour of coverage began at 10 p.m., on Time Warner Cable channel 34; RCN channel 82; and Verizon FiOS channel 34.
On hand in the QPTV studios were Republican State Senator Frank Padavan, and political consultant Cory Bearak, offering insights into the campaign process, Election Day strategy and how events seemed to have played out.
The studio discussions were augmented by call-in interviews with Assemblymember Jose Peralta, City Councilmember David Weprin, and Board of Elections spokesperson Valerie Vasquez-Rivera, who each offered expert input.
Periodic reports broadcast directly from The Queens Courier newsroom brought the panelists and the viewers up to the minute vote counts for Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate and the hot council races from around the borough as the polls closed and the counting began – to determine the makeup of the next city government.
The show’s producer-director, John Collins, was ecstatic after the multi-network cable broadcast.
“It was very helpful that we had the enormous resources of The Queens Courier and its knowledgeable personnel to contribute to the content we were able to bring to our viewers,” he said, adding “I hope we can develop this relationship for the future.”
