Man dies in Astoria after minivan hits him

ASTORIA — A 32-year-old man was dead after he was hit by a minivan crossing Broadway Monday night, police said.

Abundio Mendez-Perez was crossing the intersection eastbound at 21st Street around 8:15 p.m. when a Honda Odyssey that was traveling south on 21st Street struck him, according to police. The pedestrian was taken to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital where he was pronounced DOA.

The driver stayed at the scene and was not charged with any criminality, police said.
