Flushing – Thousands of Boy Scouts gathered in Times Square on Saturday, July 31 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of scouting. In front of 5,000 attendees and nationally broadcasted, City Councilmember Dan Halloran – an Eagle Scout – spoke about the importance of scouting in his life and the future of the youth.
“Without scouting, I wouldn’t be where I am today . . . today’s Boy Scouts are our future leaders. Here’s to 100 more years,” said Halloran. All day activities in Times Square included a rock wall for climbing and a simulated canoe ride.
The Boy Scouts of America was founded in Flushing in 1910.
