ASTORIA – Since touring the Steinway Mansion in the early fall, Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. has spearheaded the effort to turn the property, currently for sale, into a community resource.
Recently, he organized a tour of the 25-room mansion on 41st Street and 18th Avenue for Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe.
Owner Michael Halberian guided Commissioner Benepe and Councilmember Vallone through the mansion, showing its numerous historical and eclectic items and rooms –including an English-styled pub, lion-adorned pool and extensive library.
Halberian hopes to sell the mansion and have it transformed into a community facility.
