Holiday food drive

WESTERN QUEENS – City Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer is trying to make sure that the holidays are a little brighter this year, especially for those residents who are struggling because of the poor economy.

Since 2008, the demand has grown so much that more than 68 percent of New York food pantries have had to turn people away or ration food for lack of resources.

In an effort to address this growing demand, Van Bramer will be launching a holiday food drive to collect canned goods and non-perishable items for local food pantries to help provide food for those less fortunate this holiday season.

Van Bramer will be collecting 100 percent fruit & vegetable juice (boxed & canned), baby food & formula, canned & boxed foods (chili, macaroni, soup, stew, etc.), canned or dried beans & peas (black, lentils, pinto, etc.) canned fruit (in its own juice), canned fish and meats (chicken, salmon, tuna, etc.), cereal, dried fruit (sealed), nuts (sealed), oatmeal, pasta (sealed), peanut butter and rice.

Food collected from the Holiday Food Drive will go directly to local food pantries throughout the district. Any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated.

The Holiday Food Drive is officially in full swing and donations can be dropped off at Van Bramer’s District Office on 47-01 Queens Boulevard Suite 205 Sunnyside, NY 11104 (Monday-Friday) until Friday, December 10.

To maximize the efforts, his office has teamed up with the Queens Library and for your convenience donations can also be dropped off at any of the following neighborhood libraries:
