Holiday lights are expected to go up on Skillman Avenue for the first time.
The lights, which are subject to the approval of the Department of Transportation, would go from 45th Street through to 51st Street on Skillman Avenue. The aim would be to erect them shortly after Thanksgiving Day, according to Tim Chen, who is working on the task on behalf of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce. Chen owns Quaint, an upscale restaurant, on Skillman Avenue and 46th Street.
Joe Kenton, a representative of Jimmy Van Bramer’s office, is working with the Chamber to help with funding and to assist with any electrical issues.
“They have [holiday] lights on Greenpoint Avenue, Queens Blvd and, now, hopefully Skillman Avenue. Then all the main streets will be covered,” Chen said.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside Shines, which oversees the holiday lights on Greenpoint Ave and Queens Blvd, will be holding its annual lighting ceremony on Nov. 16, 2010, at 7 p.m. The lighting will take place on Greenpoint Avenue, between 42nd and 43rd Streets, during the grand opening of the Orchard Farmers Market.
