Fairway Supermarket will be making a giant impact in Queens by opening a new supermarket in Douglaston.
The grocery store is known for offering specialty foods, fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and fish.
“The area is in need of a high-end food market,” said Rosemary Guidice, president of the Douglaston Townhouse Condominiums. “Fairway is excellent for the community.”
According to Community Board 11 member Susan Seinfield, most of the elderly residents usually have to pay close to $30 for a cab to get to the Stop & Shop on Northern Boulevard.
“It is so far to go to a grocery store,” said Seinfield.
The construction of the building should be complete six to eight months after they obtain the city permits for the store.
“With new projects there are always unforeseen delays that are out of your control,” said Dan Glickberg, executive vice president of Fairway Supermarket. “Right now we are focused on obtaining our outstanding permits and starting construction on the site.”
The executive board at Fairway has high hopes that the store will be a welcome addition to the Douglaston community.
“We think Douglaston is a perfect location for a new Fairway Market,” said Glickberg. “There is a high population density in the surrounding neighborhood, and the community is underserved with food shopping options.”
“The opening of this Fairway Market is a highly anticipated event for both our company and the neighboring communities,” said Glickberg.
