COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Anna Krill is the founder and executive director of SHAREing & CAREing, a not-for-profit organization that advocates providing a full range of support services to those whose lives are impacted by breast and other cancers including community health providers, lectures and educational forums. The goal is to improve medical services to all women and their families through early detection and treatment. She is also an active member of Community Board 1, a member of the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation Board of Directors, a former advisory board member of Elmhurst Hospital Center, a member of the Tamiment Democratic Club and the Kiwanis Club of Astoria/LIC.
PERSONAL: For the past 38 years, Krill has been happily married to her husband, Jarosoaw (Jerry), who received a Purple Heart in the Vietnam War. They have two children, Larissa and Andrea, who is expecting her first child later this year.
JOB: “I devote all my energies to SHAREing & CAREing. I’m very passionate about health care ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993.”
BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “Keeping a not-for-profit organization going with limited funding. More and more people turn to us for help because they don’t have health insurance or they have lost their jobs. It puts a tremendous demand on our organization. To keep serving the people, we depend of contributions and we are grateful for City Council funding.”
FAVORITE MEMORY: “They are always centered on my children and their accomplishments. Life is a gift.”
INSPIRATION: “My daughters are my inspiration and the young women I come across in life. My inspiration is that everyone will have a best shot at a healthy life.” – Bob Doda
