Aqueduct Racino creating 1,150 jobs

Local Queens residents are racing in with their job applications – according to the company developing the new casino coming to Aqueduct in South Ozone Park.
Resorts World Casino received a total of 10,654 job applications to fill an expected 1,150 permanent jobs since the company started the hiring process at the end of May. Queens residents accounted for more than 70 percent of the total applications – approximately 7,500 – for jobs ranging from food service and janitorial to hospitality and entertainment.
Michael Speller, president of Resorts World Casino New York City, said that the poor jobs report released on July 8 show that the nation is still hurting for jobs. Resorts World, according to Speller, will continue to find ways to get work to the people who need it most.
“The latest applicant figures reflect the genuine excitement in and around Queens about the opportunities that the new facility will bring to the local community,” said Speller. “With last week’s poor jobs report, we are continuing to evaluate opportunities for more job creation. We are thrilled to have the chance to accept applications from so many talented individuals and are looking forward to building a skilled and diverse local workforce.”
Nearly half of the total applications received to date were submitted by job applicants in June, the first month that Resorts World’s onsite employment center was open to the public, with strong application rates continuing in early July.
Resorts World used as expansive network of resources to get the word out to job seekers. The gaming giant started an onsite employment center, partnered with three local employment centers and launched online application tools at www.rwnewyork.com.
“We’re so pleased that so many people have already utilized the various employment resources we’ve made available to the community,” said Kevin Bogle, vice president of human resources at Resorts World. “The overwhelming response we’ve seen from job seekers in such a short period of time is a strong indication that Queens is primed for further development, and we are pleased to play a role in stimulating the local economy.”
Interested applicants can visit the onsite employment center at 110-00 Rockaway Boulevard in Jamaica from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Applicants can also visit the three local employment services centers that have partnered with Resorts World; NYC Business Solutions, Queens Workforce 1 Career Center; SUNY Queens Educational Opportunity Center; and the Council for Airport Opportunity.
