Lois Christie, president and CEO of Christie & Co. Salon ? Spa and president of Intercoiffure America/Canada is launching a campaign to offer free services – from wigs to haircuts to manicures and pedicures – for women undergoing chemotherapy.
For Christie, it is a personal matter.
Her best friend, Maryanne McCormack, vice president of Intercoiffure America/Canada, has battled breast cancer – and that’s how Maryanne & Friends was born.
Salon owners saw an opportunity to help women get through the trying time of chemotherapy.
“Our role as hairdressers is to make women feel better,” explained Christie. “The beauty industry should be a safe haven for women to get respect, dignity and whatever they need to feel better and look good.”
Being a member means you never charge women going through chemotherapy for wig service. Each member salon will be listed on a web site and have a window display “so women will know where to go to get these free services in their neighborhood.”
“We are engaging the beauty industry with an initiative to help these women during their time of need,” Christie went on. “Women trust us, and we want to help them during this difficult time.”
In addition, Christie explained, “We will be working with hospitals and other organizations to spread the word that these services are available.”
Recently, Christie & Co. Salon ? Spa hosted Martino Cartier, celebrity hairdresser and motivational speaker, who shared that, “being a hairdresser is a gift.”
“Maryanne’s legacy is to perpetually have these services,” said Christie.
