MTA begins to resume service

After a full system shutdown in advance of Hurricane Irene, the MTA has begun to resume service across all its subway lines and buses.
Buses throughout the city are operating on a normal schedule, save for routes whose path is detoured by fallen trees or power lines.
The subway is running on all lines with very limited exceptions. The train schedule will be less frequent than normal. Longer waits and crowded trains are expected. The MTA has said that service should improve throughout the day.
All MTA Bridges and Tunnels are open and regular fare policy has resumed.
Access-a-Ride should return to service at noon.
Metro-North Railroad, which received the worst damage from the storm, will not operate any regular service today. Flooding and power outages from the storm caused significant damage. Crews are currently working to clean up three mudslides.
The LIRR will operate near normal service on six of its 12 lines. The lines to and from Babylon, Hicksville (on the Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch), Ronkonkoma, Port Washington (half-hourly service west of Great Neck; no service east of Great Neck), Hempstead and West Hempstead are running.
The Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, Long Beach, Far Rockaway, Montauk (east of Babylon) and Greenport (east of Ronkonkoma) lines remain suspended.
LaGuardia Airport arrivals and departures have resumed service. John F. Kennedy has resumed arrivals and departures will begin at noon.
