The NewFilmmakers Film Festival will premiere “Blue Collar Boys,” a New York-based independent film, starring Queens natives Gabe Fazio and Joshua Paled.
Fazio, 38, has been living in Queens since 2003. He has the lead role in the film, playing the character of Charlie Redkin (Red), 27, a construction worker set on self improvement as he struggles to provide for his family during their economic strife. Fazio was on stage and shot for five weeks.
Fazio wouldn’t say he has completely broken into the film industry as of yet, but he got his start through the Actor’s Studio in New York City.
Joshua Paled, in his early 30’s, has lived in Forest Hills all his life. Paled plays a supporting role in the film. His character Michael “Mason” Barone is the enforcer of the group, an intimidating bear, who is a lifelong friend of Red. Paled was on stage and shot for three weeks.
He studied acting in New York City and began his career as a comedian.
“Blue Collar Boys” is a story of a family dealing with the struggles of the working-class life. Inspired by true events, the screenplay is a collage of real-life experiences from the family, friends and co-workers of the writer/director, Mark Nistico.
Red and his friends fall into a lifestyle of hatred and thirst for revenge. Together, they face dilemmas that will test their morals, faith and ultimately their loyalties to each other.
The film will screen at The Anthology Film Archives on December 12 at 9 p.m. Tickets will be sold ($6) at the door. People will receive a complimentary DVD of “The Making of Blue Collar Boys.” Reception will take place after the film screens.
The Anthology Film Archives is located on 32 2nd Avenue at 2nd Street; one block north of the 2nd Avenue stop off the “F” train.
