No need to check the temperature or look for orange leaves in the trees, as the list of Queens activities clearly demonstrates that the season is changing.

August’s free outdoor concerts and movies in public parks are being replaced by September’s street fairs, including a back-to-school festival in Forest Park. (Ugh!) But there is still some outdoor music in the Rockaways, a chance to watch a film and then ask the director questions in Astoria and free cooking classes for children in Long Island City.

Here’s the rundown:

Saturday, Sept. 1, Children’s Cooking Classes, 11 a.m., Socrates Sculpture Park, Vernon Boulevard & Broadway, Astoria. The nonprofit Allergic to Salad will offer a free cooking class for youth, ages 2 to 12. Allergic to Salad specializes in healthy, fun, hands-on classes and uses fresh, local, seasonal and organic ingredients as much as possible. Registration is required. (www.allergictosalad.com)

Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3, 6 p.m., Music at the Concessions, Beach 96th Street, The Rockaways. Live music, DJs, prix fixe dinners, guest bartenders and chefs, performances and pop ups. Free. Rockaway Concessions. (www.rockawaybeach- club.com)

Monday Sept. 3, noon to 6 p.m., 30th Avenue Business Association Street Fair. Located on 30th Avenue between 29th and 41th streets, Astoria. Merchandise, food, promotions, fun. (www.centralastoria.org)

Tuesday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m., special preview of Ira Sachs’s latest film Keep the Lights On with at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. Sachs will be present to answer questions. This event actually closes “Looking for Love: The Films of Ira Sachs,” the first comprehensive NYC retrospective of Sachs’s work that includes all his feature films and a selection of short films, each followed by a Pinewood Dialogue with Sachs in person.
