Pols Sponsor Drives for School Supplies

Donate Items In L.I.C., Ozone Park

Two local lawmakers are looking to prepare pupils for class by running back-to-school supply drives.

Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder is hosting a “Project Back to School” supply drive in partnership with the Coalition for the Homeless, providing drop-off locations at his district offices at 90-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd. in Far Rockaway and at 108- 14 Cross Bay Blvd. in Ozone Park beginning Aug. 20 and running through Sept. 14.

“In this tough economy we must do everything we can to help those struggling the most,” Goldfeder said in a statement. “Our children should not have to go to school empty handed this fall. Just one small donation can go a long way in giving a child the tools they need to start the year right.”

For more information about this program, contact Goldfeder’s offices at 1-718-945-9550.

Meanwhile, City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer is running a back-to-school drive of his own, accepting supplies at his district office at 47-01 Queens Blvd. in Sunnyside as well as the Sunnyside, Woodside, Court Square, Long Island City and Broadway branches of the Queens Library.

Donations will be accepted from Aug. 6 to Sept. 10.
