The upcoming American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Middle Village and freight rail issues were hot topics during the Glendale Property Owners Association (GPOA) meeting last Thursday night, May 2, at St. Pancras Pfeifer Hall. One of the Relay for Life’s organizers, Alex Maureau (not pictured), provided an overview of the June fund-raiser in Middle Village. In addition to voicing their support for the event, members of the GPOA also provided a $150 donation to Civics United for Railroad and Environmental Solutions (CURES) for their ongoing efforts to bring awareness and attention to quality of life problems related to local freight rail traffic. CURES Co-Chair Mary Parisen (center) is shown accepting the check presented by (from left to right) GPOA Recording Secretary Margaret Kotnik, Sergeant-at-arms Norbert Giesse, First Vice President Robert Kozlowski and Second Vice President Howard Jaeger.
