Man charged in Astoria rape: Police

ASTORIA — An alleged rapist left a trail of his own blood from the crime scene after bursting through a window to evade police, the New York Post reported.

Andres Santana, 30, allegedly broke into a 9th Street house around 3:50 a.m. Aug. 21 before entering the bedroom of a 22-year-old woman armed with a knife and raping her, the Post reported.

The victim’s father heard noise coming out of the room and jumped in to help his daughter before trying to wrestle the suspect to the ground, the Post reported.

After a struggle, Santana allegedly jumped through a window at the back of the house in an attempt to flee, leaving behind a trail of blood that police followed to a neighbor’s property, the Post reported.

Santana was arrested and taken to Elmhurst Hospital for multiple injuries before being charged with rape, criminal sex act, burglary, criminal mischief and menacing, police said.
