Elmhurst bookkeeper pleads guilty to stealing rent: DA

ELMHURST — A Westchester County woman, who formerly was a bookkeeper for an Elmhurst building management company, pleaded guilty to stealing $177,000 in rent payments from the company’s tenants, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

An internal investigation by the company, Queen Crossroads LLC, revealed Patricia Talavera, 40, had been altering money orders from tenants and depositing them directly into her own personal account, Brown said.

Talavera pleaded guilty to second-degree larceny and will be sentenced May 30, according to the borough’s top prosecutor. She could face up to seven years in prison, the DA said.
