Cops: Stole Bank’s Cash With Demand Note

A note-carrying bandit got away with thousands in cash from a Woodside bank during a heist on Monday morning, Apr. 7, law enforcement sources said.

The caper reportedly occurred at about 10:28 a.m. Monday at the Astoria Federal Savings Bank located at 60-20 Woodside Ave.

Police stated the perpetrator- described as a white man believed to be 50 years of age, standing 6′-tall, weighing 200 lbs. and having short hair-entered the location, approached the counter and handed a demand note to a teller.

No weapons were displayed, it was noted.

Seconds later, authorities noted, the employee provided the bandit with about $2,200 in cash. The suspect reportedly took the money and fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction.

Members of the 108th Precinct responded to the scene. There were no reported injuries.

Various police units engaged in a search of the surrounding area for the suspect. Despite all efforts, it was noted, no immediate arrests were made.

The NYPD Major Case Squad’s investigation into the robbery is ongoing, police said.
