The Department of Transportation has started to take down the old parking meters in Sunnyside that became obsolete when muni-meters were introduced at the beginning of 2013.
A DOT crew was removing the meters at the corner of Queens Blvd and 45th Street today, using a grinder to cut the old metal meters off at the basehttps://qns.com/wp-admin/users.php. A DOT worker said that the crew would be spending the next week or two removing them throughout Sunnyside.
The DOT assured Sunnyside, as well as the rest of New York City, that when the muni-meters were erected the old parking meters would be removed.
“It’s an end of an era,” said the DOT worker removing them. The worker had stacks of old parking meters in the back of his truck from the ones he had removed earlier in the day.
A Department of Transportation spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.
