Campers at the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council’s (GRYC) summer youth program at P.S./I.S. 128 in Middle Village received a visit from City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley on Tuesday, July 29. Crowley congratulated the GRYC on providing the largest summer youth program in its history, which serves 1,300 children in day camps and provides 1,000 youth jobs through its summer youth employment program. Founded in 1980, the GRYC also operates day camps at P.S. 60 in Woodhaven and I.S. 93 and Notre Dame Catholic Academy in Ridgewood. Through funding that the City Council’s Queens delegation and the Queens Borough President’s office provided, the GRYC recently purchased its Summerfield Street headquarters, eliminating its rent costs, and plans on creating junior high school initiatives. This fall, it will also provide full-day prekindergarten at Little Stars in Ridgewood, Notre Dame Catholic Academy of Ridgewood and Glendale’s St. Pancras School. Pictured with Crowley and camp participants is GRYC President Robert Monahan.
