Bicycle racks continue to go up in Astoria

Dec. 12, 2014 By Michael Florio

The Department of Transportation has installed bicycle racks along several Astoria thoroughfares such as 30th Ave and Broadway.

The racks have been installed over the past few weeks and replace the old parking meters, said Councilman Costa Constantinides.

“They are a welcome addition to the community,” Constantinides said. “It should make it easier for those residents who ride bicycles.”

The DOT has been installing the bike racks throughout Queens in the past year. The agency has stated that the bike racks discourage cyclists from parking their bikes at mailboxes, parking meters, trees, and other sidewalk structures.

The racks are free to use.
