Two 12-year-old boys were arrested after someone at their Elmhurst school came across a notebook detailing how they would blow up the school with rocket launchers, grenades and landmines.
According to police, someone at P.S./I.S. 102 at 55-24 Van Horn St. in Elmhurst found a book at the school’s gym with the students’ plans on Nov. 16. The school then notified police who arrested the 12-year-olds, PIX 11 first reported.
Police said it was not immediately clear if the boys had those weapons in possession but a spokesperson for the NYPD said “there was very detailed information as to what they wanted to do,” in the notebook.
“Safety always comes first,” said Department of Education spokesperson Miranda Barbot. “These troubling allegations are being investigated and we’re working closely with the school to ensure appropriate follow-up action is taken.”
The students are ordered back to court on Dec. 12.
