Queens senator partners with Girl Scouts and Glendale pantry for school supply drive

State Senator Joseph  Addabbo has partnered with the Girl Scouts of America Troop 4791 and the Sacred Heart Pantry in Glendale for a school supply drive to assist students and parents who are in need.

For the whole month of August, the Girl Scouts and Addabbo’s office will be collecting school supplies and personal hygiene products to benefit students and parents who struggle to afford them before school begins in September.

“With two children in the school system, I understand how difficult it can be for parents to purchase all of the necessary items on their school supply lists,” Addabbo said. “Hopefully this drive can provide these families who are assisted by the Sacred Heart Food Pantry some of the items that they need.”

The following school supplies are needed:

  • Pens and pencils
  • Folders
  • Loose-leaf paper
  • Highlighters
  • Crayons
  • Notebooks
  • Three-ring binders

The following personal hygiene products are needed:

  • Bar of soap, deodorant, shampoo, and shaving items (razor, shaving cream, etc.)
  • Facial tissues
  • Toothpaste, toothbrushes and mouthwash
  • Band aids
  • Disposable diapers
  • Feminine products
  • Sunscreen

On Aug. 31 when the drive ends, Addabbo’s office will deliver the collected goods to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry in Glendale. The pantry will hand out the items to parents and families who are in need from around the neighborhood.

“A supply drive like this can really help out some families who are struggling to make ends meet,” Addabbo said. “I would like to thank the Girl Scout Troop 4791 for helping collecting goods, as well as the Sacred Heart Food Pantry for giving supplies to those in need”
