A 21-year-old man was critically injured when a car struck sand barrels and flipped on the Belt Parkway in Brookville Sunday morning, Oct. 16, according to the NYPD.

Police from the 105th Precinct in Queens Village responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision on the eastbound Belt Parkway at 233rd Street at around 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 and found three victims inside the wreck. EMS responded to the scene and rushed all three men to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where a 21-year-old was listed in critical condition. A 22-year-old and a 19-year-old were both listed in stable condition, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2008 Lexus was traveling eastbound on the Belt Parkway when it smashed into the sand barrels which caused the vehicle to overturn, a police spokesman said, adding it was unclear which victim was operating the Lexus.

The investigation remains ongoing.
