A Maspeth man riding a scooter was killed on Monday night after wiping out near the Long Island Expressway, according to authorities.

Police from the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving an electric scooter on Hamilton Place in the vicinity of Borden Avenue just after 11 p.m. on Jan. 2 when they found the rider lying on the roadway with trauma to his body.

EMS responded to the crash scene and rushed the 46-year-old man to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

The victim was later identified as Hamdan Almatare of 65th Place.

Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined Almatare was riding the scooter northbound on Hamilton Place over the Long Island Expressway and lost control of the device near Borden Avenue “for unknown reasons” and fell from the scooter and onto the roadway, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
