State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is set to launch free breast cancer screenings next month in his Queens district.

The American-Italian Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting cancer research and education, will bring its Mammogram Bus for screenings outside Addabbo’s District Office, located at 84-10 Jamaica Ave. in Woodhaven, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2.

Women between the ages of 40 and 79 who reside in the district and have not had a mammogram screening in the last 12 months are eligible to participate.

Addabbo encourages residents to take advantage of the screening event, considering that it is an ongoing challenge for most community members to access affordable healthcare.

“Bringing free mammograms and clinical breast exams to the district is a major service for women who are either uninsured or cannot make it to a clinic,” Addabbo says while further insisting that early cancer detection can be the difference between life and death.

Those interested in getting a free mammogram must make an appointment by calling 1-877-628-9090. Residents with further questions are encouraged to call Addabbo’s office at 718-738-1111.
