The city’s three public library systems have released their city-wide list of the top book checkouts for 2024.
Avid Queens readers of all ages can check if their favorite titles were listed among the top 10 checkouts for adults, young adults, and children available at each library system. The top titles include all formats—e-books, audiobooks, and physical books.
Across the city’s three library systems—Brooklyn, Queens, and New York Public Library—the top three books were “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin, which was the most checked-out title, followed by “Happy Place” by Emily Henry and “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros.
Queens Public Library Chief Librarian Nick Buron said that despite adult and young adult readers’ choices spanning different genres, a common theme among them is that all authors listed are women. “It also is worth noting that many of the stories told in the books that made our adult list are gut-wrenching, which may be an indication of how some people have been feeling during a year of change and uncertainty,” Buron said in a statement.
