W e b s i t e s Will Queens Hang Up The Phone to Get Online?

With all the dollar saving deals provided by numerous computer manufacturers and on-line services, consumers in Queens may find themselves with no reason not to get caught up in the world wide web. "What appeals to most users is the ability to e-mail," said Gene Mastropieri who heads up Bayside’s Active Nature Web Design and Hosting, the creators of several internet home pages for local groups and businesses.
According to experts like the Queens website designer, many people locally and abroad are becoming part of the e-mail phenomenon due to the fact that users can communicate with anyone, anywhere around the world all for the price of a local phone call.
Mastropieri explained that the years to come may hold in store an enormous increase of e-mail users due to the growing accessibility to the medium.
"Now there’s no need for an on-line account, all you need is an e-mail account," Mastropieri noted adding that with alliances being formed by major players in the computer hardware and internet industries, getting connected is becoming even simpler.
Late last month, eMachines — a low priced personal computer manufacturer — teamed up with the world’s leading interactive services company, America On Line (AOL) in an effort to make getting on-line more affordable.
The agreement between the two computer firms stated that all of eMachines’ new computers will be equipped with AOL software and a new promotion involved in the deal will see the internet provider and computer company offering a special limited-time promotion.
Consumers who sign up for a three year membership to AOL’s new and improved Compuserve 2000 interactive service will receive a $400 rebate with the purchase of selected eMachines computers including a model named the eTower which fetches a retail price tag of $399.
"Consumers are increasingly purchasing PCs for the sole purpose of getting on line and when they do they want easy access," said Jan Brandt who as the president of AOL marketing hopes that the deals like the one arranged by her company will give computer buyers even more incentive to sign up for e-mail and internet access.
"With companies like AOL and eMachines offering refunds over the computer we may see a new trend emerging,"said Mastropieri.
According to Mastropieri, being able to make phone calls over the internet and video e-mail are also among the reasons so many people are expected to let their fingers do the walking on a computer keyboard instead of through the yellow pages.
Mastropieri pointed out that websites such as www.telebot.com , which serves as a one stop internet message center is one example of why we can expect to see internet use rise the years to come.
The telebot web-site enables users to read faxes, listen to voice mails and receive pages via e-mail free of charge.
After signing up, users can hand out their assigned identification number to friends and clients to enter when they call telebot’s toll-free telephone number.
With the possibilities offered by websites like "telebot," "it’s like cheating the phone company," contented Mastropieri.
