The city Department of Sanitation began an anti-litter campaign in Forest Hills and Rego Park months before nearly 200 residents marched in protest of dirty streets, a department spokeswoman said, but community leaders still are not satisfied.
Infuriated residents and area politicians took to the streets on Nov. 21 carrying signs and chanting anti-litter cheers through downtown Forest Hills on a busy shopping day. The march was organized by the Forest Hills Action League, a group that formed only weeks before the march and has 30 to 40 active members.
