Crew snafu cripples Bayside phones

A Bell Atlantic crew in Bayside damaged a telephone cable Monday morning that in turn disconnected local customers from 911 emergency service for about five hours and left the area with sporadic phone outages throughout the day, a Bell Atlantic spokesman said.

The crew was able to reroute phone service around the damaged cable by 5 p.m. Monday, Bell Atlantic spokesman John Bonomo said.
