A Haitian right activist from Cambria Heights said over the past month more than 10,000 Haitians have already been expelled from the Dominican Republic by the administration of President Leonel Fernandez.
Anger at the deportations sparked the protest by about 150 Haitian and Dominican immigrants Saturday in Times Square, which coincided with a large nationalist anti-Haitian march and mass by government supporters in Santo Domingo.
Of the 600,000 Haitians living in the New York City, they make up 35 percent of the population in the Queens neighborhoods of Cambria Heights, Queens Village, Laurelton and Jamaica.
