City Councilman Sheldon Leffler (D-Hollis) called on the Giuliani administration to provide the necessary funds to increase the number of civilians working in the New York Police Department to free up more officers for street duty.
Speaking at a news conference Jan. 12 in front of the City Hall Rotunda, Leffler, chairman of the Committee on Public Safety, urged the administration to beef up the staffing of civilians working for the NYPD as a cost-saving measure.
