Queens College's Spring Music Festival for the year 2,000 promises to be a spectacular series, featuring concerts and ensembles performed by world class artists. Premiering March 7, the eight weekly concerts, held on successive Tuesdays, from 10 to noon, includes the international concert artist pianist Ruth Laredo, The Lyric Piano Quarter with pianist Gerald Robbins and Glenn Dicterow, who is concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, and Vincent LaSelva's New York Grand Opera in a concert performance of “La Traviata.” The grand finale on Tues., May 2, will feature the phenomenal clarinetist David Krakauer, playing a program of classical music and Klezmer, with his group Klezmer Madness. Biennial Members Salon Exhibition, Flushing Town Hall, presents the work of 70 of its visual artist members. The St. John's University's Department of Fine Arts will host its sixth annual National Art Exhibition through March 17, at the University Gallery, in Bent Hall, Room 109. This exhibit presents an eclectic sampling of contemporary art from throughout the country. Garvies Point Museum and Preserve's Weekend Film Festival will feature the film “Earthquakes” on Saturday and Sun., March 11 and 12. The educational 30-minute film, suitable for general audiences, is a fascinating study explaining why we experience earthquakes. “Earthquakes” contains actual footage enabling viewers to see the destruction resulting from this unbelievable phenomenon of nature.
