The city Board of Education said it will acquire 32 acres of land instead of the originally proposed 10.3 acres on the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center campus in Glen Oaks for the construction of three new schools.
In announcing the plan Friday, Borough President Claire Shulman, state Sen. Frank Padavan (D-Bellerose) and Queens Board of Education member Terri Thomson said the added acreage will provide adequate open space, parking and recreational facilities.
Thomson said the schools will be part of a true campus setting, providing a continuity of learning for the children who will arrive on the campus for pre-K and leave when they go off to college.
She said the schools would pull half of their students from School District 26 in northeast Queens and half from School District 29 in southeast Queens.
