FLUSHING – The unidentified, decomposed body of a 50- to 60-year-old man was found Friday floating in Flushing Bay, police said.
The man, whose cause of death and identification were still being investigated, was discovered in Flushing Bay near 119-13 Graham Court at 11:05 a.m. Friday by the Harbor Unit of the Police Department, said Detective Edward Reuss, a police spokesman.
The person was between 50 and 60 years old, Reuss said.
The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
The discovery was the second decomposed, unidentified body to be found in the confines of the 109th Precinct in less than 24 hours.
Police in the 109th Precinct discovered the remains of an unidentified person wrapped in a rug in an open field near 26th Avenue and Ulner Street Thursday afternoon at 3:40 p.m.
The officers were responding to a call that someone had discovered skeletal remains, possibly of a human, in an open field, Reuss said.
Upon arriving at the scene with the medical examiner, authorities found the remains wrapped in a rug, Reuss said. The person's sex was still not known and the medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
Reuss said Friday it was too early to say whether the two incidents were related.
“I couldn't even speculate as to whether they were connected,” he said. “One was found wrapped in a rug in an open field and the other was found floating in the water. The only thing they have in common is they were both deceased.”
