Auburndale train station gets $5M renovation

Long Island Rail Road President Thomas Prendergast and a host of elected officials and civic leaders plunged their gold shovels into a ceremonial sandbox Friday to mark the groundbreaking for a $5 million rehabilitation of the Auburndale train station.

Prendergast said the station, above the intersection of Station Road and 192nd Street, was built in 1901 – four years before Auburndale was actually on maps of Queens, noted a spokesman for Borough President Claire Shulman.
