Newtown dominates overmatched Flushing, 15-0

By Dylan Butler

For three years, the Newtown girls softball team has been in the shadows of Townsend Harris and Bryant in Queens I. But with both teams losing a lot of talent to graduation, the Pioneers are set to step into the spotlight.

Newtown (10-2) continued its tear through the league last Thursday with a 15-0 rout of Flushing, in a mercy-rule shortened four and a half innings.

Senior Lizette Payamps led the way for the Pioneers, pitching a two-hitter, while striking out five. At the plate, she went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
