Ambulance honors handicapped volunteer

Joseph Appello may be wheelchair-bound, but that has not stopped the 36-year-old from getting around the streets of Whitestone as often as any other resident.

In fact, Appello, who was born with cerebral palsy, traverses so many miles in one day, he has two motorized wheelchairs so that his morning wheels can recharge during his p.m. cruising.
