Federal funds to help Flushing Bay cleanup

By Chris Fuchs

The House of Representatives was expected to vote sometime next week on a bill to allocate $1.01 million for the next fiscal year for the continuing cleanup of Flushing Bay and Creek, U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-Jackson Heights) announced last week.

The funds, if approved, would allow the Army Corps of Engineers to continue a three-year-long feasibility study focused on how best to clean up the bay and creek and to possibly begin dredging some 100,000 yards of the mucky sediment by late 2001.
