A vicious fire in Little Neck left 73-year-old Samuel D. Fried dead of a heart attack Sunday night after firefighters removed him from the smoldering two-story house but could not revive him, fire officials said.
He was the only person in the house at 50-10 Deepdale Place when the fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. in the basement, said the Fire Department, which is investigating the cause of the blaze.
Neighbors said Fried, who walked with a cane, called his niece when he realized there was a fire in the house. She and her husband rushed to the burning home.
