Six Queens men were among the 20 suspects police had arrested by midweek for allegedly sexually attacking more than 50 women in Central Park on June 11 after the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
A task force of about 75 Manhattan detectives has been on the trail of dozens of men suspected of assaulting women in Central Park during and after the parade. The women were doused with water, grabbed, had their clothes ripped or torn off and, in some cases, were dragged to the ground and molested. Some people were also robbed during the melee.
Police said they made the arrests based on viewing several amateur video tapes taken of the incidents and identification by the victims.
As of presstime Tuesday evening, 20 men from the metropolitan area had been arrested in connection with the assaults and 53 women have come forward as victims.
Among the Queens residents arrested on various charges of sexual abuse and robbery through Tuesday were Dellon Evans, 17, of Craft Avenue in Rosedale; Alexander Eraide, 23, of 123-41 135th St. in South Ozone Park; Isaias Lozano, 19, of 117-12 Jamaica Ave., Richmond Hill; John Taylor, 24, of 141 Beach 56th St.; Lonnie Hopson, 18, of Rockaway Beach Boulevard; and Isaial Forbes, 18, of 119 Beach 56th St.; all from the Rockaway section of Queens, Detective Robert Samuels said.
Victims ranged from 14- to 16-year-old girls to adult tourists and honeymooners.
Several victims have accused police officers stationed near the location of the attacks of ignoring their pleas for help.
