Jamaica Avenue may be sweltering like a funnel of hot air, but employees of Klingbeil Shoe Labs Inc. are as busy as ever making ice skating boots for competitive skaters from all over the world.
The factory, located on 145th Street and Jamaica Avenue, is barely noticeable and has no distinguishing characteristics from the outside except for a heap of machinery which can be seen pressing up against the window.
But step inside and the wooden planks on the ceiling and antique objects hanging on the wall leave the impression that one has entered a house of craftsmanship which would look more at home in the Alps than several blocks from the Van Wyck Expressway.
