A 40-year-old man who was wanted by police in the murder of his boss at the State Veterans Home in St. Albans shot himself in the head Friday morning, moments after calling the 113th Precinct to turn himself in, police said.
Stephen Robinson of Jamaica was rushed by police to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center at 7:40 a.m. in critical condition, but he improved during the day and was expected to survive, said hospital spokesman Michael Hinck.
While in the hospital, Robinson was taken into police custody and charged with the murder of 58-year-old Elizabeth Parker, a mother of three who lived in Flushing, said Alan Krawitz, a police spokesman.
Robinson allegedly shot Parker in the back of the head about 1:35 p.m. in her basement office late on Aug. 8 after the two apparently had gotten into a dispute earlier in the day, police said. Robinson fled the grounds on a blue and yellow mountain bike, authorities said.
