Starting Sept. 9, the American Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria offers retrospectives of renowned directors Budd Boetticher and Terrence Malick.
At age 84, Budd Boetticher is one of the last surviving directors from the heyday of the Hollywood studio system, when skilled craftsman could imprint their personalities on genre movies. A versatile and exuberant director, he is best known for a series of westerns starring Randolph Scott including The Tall T, Comanche Station, Ride Lonesome, and Buchanan Rides Alone
Boetticher will receive his first New York retrospective, from Sept. 16 through Oct. 1 at the American Museum of the Moving Image.
Boetticher will speak at the museum, with his screenwriting partner Burt Kennedy, on the final day of the three-weekend series,
