Eastern SNAP forms bereavement group

QUEENS VILLAGE – SNAP of eastern Queens, 80-45 Winchester Blvd. in Queens Village (Building #4 on the Creedmoor Campus) announces the formation of a new bereavement group for seniors who have recently lost a spouse or child. The group meets Mondays at 1:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 23. Call 454-2100 for more information.

at Alley Pond Park

FRESH MEADOWS – The Alley Pond Environmental Center presents a day of bird watching, Saturday, Oct. 21, starting at 8 a.m. The event, billed as “The Birds of APEC” is free and includes a walk through Alley Pond Park to show techniques identifying an array of seasonal birds.

Dress appropriately and bring binoculars.

Hollis Hills JC

holds 5K run

HOLLIS HILLS – The Hollis Hills Jewish Center holds its fifth annual 5K fun run and walk.

The sights of tree-lined Hollis Hills will take center stage as walkers and runners make their way to the finish line in the center's community wide 5K run and walk on Oct. 29.

The event, open to the public, features a warm-up stretch at 9:30 a.m. A series of five-minute youth sprints begins at 9 a.m. for ages three through 10. The race starts promptly at 10 a.m.

Hillary to meet

with Million Moms

LITTLE NECK — The Queens Chapter of the Million Mom March Foundation is to join other New York chapters in a meeting with U.S. Senate candidate Hillary Clinton this weekend.

Queens organizer Joan Gold said the meeting will be open to all registered members of the group, and spots were still available.

CB 8- The city Department of Sanitation will collect leaves, yard trimmings and Halloween pumpkins Saturday nights on Nov. 11, 25, and Dec. 9.

Use clear plastic bags. Large twigs and branches should be tied in bundles up to 4 feet long and 6 inches wide.

 

Seminar on safe use

KEW GARDENS – The Friends of Kew Gardens Hills Library will host a seminar, “The Safe Use of Your Medication” Monday, Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Dinner, Chinese auction

at Floral Park Lions Club

FLORAL PARK – The Floral Park Lions Club will hold its annual spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction on Friday, Oct. 27 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory's Memorial Hall.

Proceeds will go toward a variety of charities supported by the Lions Club.
