Did you figure he would wind up in jail or live in a box on a street corner?
Now's your chance to learn if your predictions came true or if your fantasy will come crashing down when you discover he's a vice president at IBM. Old-timers and recent graduates of PS 115 are getting together Friday night to find out these answers and help the school celebrate its 50th anniversary
“I am totally excited,” said Marjorie Fein, principal at the Floral Park school the past five years. “We have been working very hard to organize the celebration and are happy because the anniversary became a part of our curriculum. It fit into all of our standards.”
She said the school has been gearing up for the anniversary celebration and reunion since September.
“We have a chorus, which will sing the music of the last 50 years and the fifth graders will have a dance recital performing the dances of the last 50 years,” Fein said. “I think the children are excited and looking forward to the day.”
The school awaits more than 300 alumni, teachers, community leaders and administrators at the festivities, which start at 6 p.m.
School tours will be followed by the children's performance, dinner and dancing.
Fein said some of the former students planning to come are from classes as far back as 1943, who attended the school before it relocated to 80-51 261st St.
Some are traveling from Ohio, New Jersey and Manhattan, and one former student “is now a teacher in Ohio and her class has been pen-paling back and forth with a fourth-grade class at PS 115,” Fein explained.
Fein said Barry Dutchen, alumnus from the 1959 graduating class, has created a web site for the reunion and anniversary at www.members.tripod.com/PS115Q/.
Scheduled speakers include state Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose); City Councilman Sheldon Leffler (D-Hollis); Anita Saunders, deputy superintendent of School District 26; Carol Gresser, former Community School Board 26 president; and Tina Glowatz, Community School Board 26 member.
